When it come to cooking game meats a slow cooker is a must have.
Preparation:
Recipes of game and other meat cuts always recommend browning the meat first - I never have and have never spoiled a recipe by skipping this process. By eliminating the browning step the meal remains gluten free and is no better or less tasty.
Sprinkle roast with salt and pepper; dust with flour. Brown the venison roast in heated oil .Add onion and to skillet. Turn off the heat and add beef stock.
Chop vegetable and place in bottom of cooker. Add meat raw or transfer browned meat to slow cooker. Add tomatoes to cooker, along with the herbs and seasoning.
Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours.
Serves 6 to 8.
You may also choose to use a prepared slow-cooker recipe bases available at all leading supermarkets. These little sachets come with instructions for beef, chicken, lamb or pork. Simply replace the meat with game, add ¼ cup of liquid more than the premix prescribes.
Start your slower cooker before you leave for work and have a tasty and healthy dinner waiting for you when you get home. I always let the family know that they’re enjoying a meal we all contributed to – from the hunt on the last family holiday to the washing up the kids will do! Hope your family enjoy it as much as mine.
